The Santa Fe Safari RV campground has 30 paved stalls with electric and water hookups, with a dump station located south of the public restrooms and shower facility.  There are 14 sites adjacent to the Safari Golf Course and 16 sites near the intersection of Santa Fe Ave and Chanute 35 Parkway.  Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.   Tents may be put up to the south of the restrooms and shower facility, in the grassy area, at no charge but with a limited stay of 2-nights only.

There is no charge for the first 48 hours and $10 per day afterwards, with a limited 10-day stay in any given 30-day period. The honor system is used for fee collection.  The fee collection box is located south of the public restrooms and shower facility.

Santa Fe Park is the largest park in Chanute, providing a shady, scenic area for picnics. The park contains three playgrounds and special playground equipment including an old steam engine. Other facilities include a basketball court, six lighted ball diamonds, a sand volleyball court, and a lake for boating and fishing.

Our review:  Chanute Kansas is home of Nu-Wa which built out HitchHiker II fifth wheel.  When it needed repair work on the slideroom, we took it “home” to Kansas for the repair.  (We were planning to be passing near by on our way somewhere else.)  When we arrived at the factory, they directed us to this city park just a few blocks away.  We were pleasantly surprised to find full hook-ups for free (first 48 hours).  We stayed for three days for a total cost of $10.

The campsites are actually just oversize parking spots on asphalt.  However, there is a huge, beautiful park wrapped around it.  It is IN town so shopping and dining are very convenient.  Chanute is a little off the beaten path, but if you find yourself in the area, I’d recommend the Santa Fe City Park with two thumbs up.
